Healthy Khichdi Recipe for Babies

Khichdi is the age old best and healthy baby food where in you can include rice, dal, and vegetables. A rich portion of vitamins and nutrients in one bowl. So this healthy khichdi recipe for babies is a power pack food of protein and nutrients.

  • ¼ cup Rice or Dalia
  • ¼ cup skinned and split green gram (Moong Dal)
  • ½ Onion
  • ¼ cup Carrot
  • ¼ cup Peas
  • ¼ tsp Jeera
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Coriander leaves
  • Pinch of Hing
  • Salt to taste


  • Wash and soak rice/dalia and dal in enough water for 10 mins.
  • Meanwhile, chop carrots, peas, coriander leaves and onions.
  • Now, switch ON the gas and in a cooker, put ghee. Add jeera, hing, and onions. Saute onions for 1 min.
  • Toss on the carrots, peas and stir fry them for 1 min.
  • Add soaked dal and rice, turmeric, and salt. Stir fry all these for few seconds.
  • Add 1½ cup of water and put on the cooker lid and let it cook for 3-4 whistles.
  • Switch OFF the flame and let it cool down. Add chopped coriander leaves and a tsp of ghee while serving.


  • You can add tomatoes and any other vegetable as well.
